Why pretend play with a prop

When children engage in pretend play with a prop, the questions changes from “What does this object do?” to “What can I do with this object?”
The object itself is not longer the major focus as the child incorporates the object into play. The meaning and goals of the prop are now assigned by the child.
Through repeated experiences, the child realizes that every object has unlimited possibilities for play and use.
