Almost forgot!

Needless to say, our convention was at a beautiful hotel in Schaumburg. After entering the bathroom, and turning on the lights, I was greeted with this.

Yes, you are correct, that’s a TV in the mirror. I never knew until last week that I actually need a TV in the mirror. No more straining around the corner to catch the weather!

Convention Fun

Words could not possibly describe how much I learned at the Kindermusik Convention last week.  I came home ready to implement every single piece of knowledge I took away…immediately.  Of course, that’s not possible, but I do hope you will see a refreshed, renewed Miss Laura ready to take on the world and ready to help your child enjoy this amazing seven year journey we’re on together.

On Saturday evening, we had our end of convention banquet to have fun and celebrate each other and the wonderful Kindermusik programs going on around the world.

I know I’m not in my yoga pants on the floor, so for a reference, that’s me on the end : )

So Happy!

I love flowers; flowers in vases, flowers in my garden, flowers at a greenhouse.  But I really, really love flowers in a plastic cup given by a student!!

Thank you Katelyn, it made my day!

The ranking order of a 3 year old

Overheard by my little one tonight at bedtime:

R: “Thank you God for hiring Santa to bring me the Lego Fire Station I want.”

Apparently Christmas is already a serious issue in our house : )

So Much to Tell

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  I spent an amazing 4 days in the Chicago area for our Kindermusik Convention.  I have so many things running through my head right now, and can’t wait to begin implementing them.  And…I made a shopping trip to Ikea and loaded up on some great stuff for our new studio : )

I can’t wait to see you all in class this week!

An Article from the Omaha World Herald

Too young to play an instrument? By Jane Palmer

What are good starter instruments? For babies: rattles (maracas), tambourine, bongo drums. For toddlers and preschoolers: rhythm sticks, sandpaper blocks, maracas, drums, finger cymbals, triangles, cymbals, gongs, jingle bells, xylophone-type instruments with removable bars and chorded zither. Toy instruments won’t hold a youngster’s interest for long. Age 3 and older: new or gently used piano, which should be tuned once or twice a year. Second best is a digital electronic keyboard with touch-sensitive, weighted keys. Young violin players: smaller violins, scaled to a child’s hands and body.

How young can children typically start music lessons? For traditional piano lessons, at age 7. For band and orchestra instruments, in fourth or fifth grade, when children are big enough to manage the size of the instruments and have more lung capacity.

How can you get preschoolers interested? Listen to all styles of recorded music from birth. Sing together and play singing games. Participate in Kindermusik or other music experience programs for babies through age 7 or 9. Find local programs online at http://www.kindermusik.com.%20look/ for preschool programs that devote at least 10 percent of their time to music.

How much are lessons? From $15 to $40 for a 30- or 60-minute session.
How do you obtain instruments? Introductory instruments such as sandpaper blocks may be available at toy or school supply stores. Most instruments require a trip to a music store. Ask for a student instrument. Turn down artist instruments, which are higher priced. Buy a used instrument to further cut costs, and ask about service and repairs after the sale. You may find a bargain in classified advertisements or at a pawn shop, garage sale or thrift store. Make sure everything works. Music stores often have a rent-to-own program. If you keep the instrument longer than atrial period, you own it and your monthly payments apply to the purchase. On the rental agreement, take note of the interest rate and total cost. It may be cheaper to obtain your own loan.

Our New Studio!!!!

If you haven’t heard the news by now…we’ll soon be moving to our new studio!!!! Work is being done right now to build walls for our new classrooms, and I’ve got the first coat of paint in the bathroom (you won’t be able to miss the green : )

Trust me, R’s “painting” only lasted 5 seconds.

This is one of the classrooms. This is the one we will hold classes in when we move in.

The door on the left leads into my storage room. The door on the right leads into the second classroom. The rest of the area is the waiting room.
